Comfort Foods
What are your comfort foods? There has to be something that makes you feel better when you eat it or is it just me?
I did not feel good today. I had a migraine. I woke up at 4 a.m. and just knew it was not going to be a good day. I took my Imitrex and while it helped, I still felt really bad. I have found that I need to eat when I have a migraine. I know, that probably sounds strange because I know that migraines make many people sick to their stomach. I have had that happen a few times, but normally it’s not that bad. I actually feel better if I have a full stomach.
I started feeling a little better by around noon and we had plans to visit relatives. Hubby and I decided that if I started feeling worse, we would come home. He asked what I wanted for lunch and I chose McDonalds. McDonalds is my comfort food. I grew up loving McDonalds.
When hubby’s grandmother was dying of lung cancer, the one thing that she would eat was a fish sandwich from McDonalds. I personally never liked fish sandwiches, but one day I decided to try one with Grandma and my MIL. I can still picture us all sitting around the table eating our fish sandwiches. LOL Now, when I really start missing Grandma or feeling liking I need her, I have a fish sandwich from McDonalds.
Today, I didn’t have a fish sandwich, but a Big Mac. I will probably have a fish sandwich in March. Grandma died in March 2000 and I usually have a fish sandwich in honor of her. I know it probably sounds strange, but it something that brings me comfort.
I totally understand about food bringing comfort. My problem is that most of my comfort foods contain dairy which I now can’t have
Sorry to hear about the migraine. Those totally sink!
Would you believe - oatmeal with erm… spaghetti sauce and pecorino cheese. My nana used to make it for me like that, and to this day, I love eating it that way.
