Baked Chicken
We like baked chicken. I will sometimes buy the rotisserie chicken at Walmart. I think their prices recently went up, but they used to sell them for $3.97. That’s a decent price when you consider that all you do is bring it home and serve it. I checked the other day and their chickens seem to have gotten smaller, but maybe it is just my imagination.
Fixing baked chicken is really easy. I have a convection oven and I set mine to “Roasting”. I’m not sure if it really makes a difference, but since I have that option on my oven I use it. I like to put my chicken on a stand so that it stands up in the oven. I prefer baking my chicken this way because the skin gets nice and brown all the way around. I like the skin. I know, that is the most fattening part of a chicken, but it’s what I like. My husband doesn’t care much for the skin, so this works out for us.
Here is my own recipe for baked chicken. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s good.
Ingredients:
1 whole chicken
oil
Spices:
Rotisserie Chicken Seasoning by McCormick
or
salt
pepper
garlic powder
paprika
oven thermometer
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Rinse the chicken and then spread oil over it. Sprinkle the seasoning over it and rub it in. If you are using your own seasonings, I highly recommend that you add paprika to it. Paprika will make it brown. I feel it is a must for chicken and turkeys. Place in the oven and bake for about an hour or until thermometer reaches 180.
Let cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
