Searching for a German Soup Recipe

Published by pattye at 5:06 pm under Other Edit This

I am searching for a recipe that my grandmother used to make when I was little.  I’m assuming it a German soup, but maybe that is where I am going wrong in my search. My grandparents’ parents are both from Germany.

I remember that the soup was orange in color.  It’s like the color that tomato sauce and cream would make.  The thing that made it different is that it had what I think were bits of dough dropped in it.  I think it may have had ground beef in it, but I am not positive.  It was not a runny soup, but had substance to it. The recipes I have found that are German have had the bits of dough dropped in them and they had potatoes, but the color is not orange.  I know it was that orange color.

My Dad has died, so I can’t ask him.  My uncle who also made the soup has also died.  I asked my Dad’s only living sibling about the recipe and she doesn’t remember it at all. She said that she didn’t care much for her mother’s cooking.  Surprised

Does anyone know the recipe I am talking about?

It definitely is a soup. I’m trying to remember the taste, but it’s not coming to me right now. I haven’t had it in over 30 years, but I remember really liking it. I’m not a soup lover, so that says something about how good it was. I guess it’s possible that she made up the recipe herself.
